"Bundle of Joy" – also known as the disturbing, whacked-out, building-to-a-bizarre-and-feverish-climax part of “Fluffhead” – is the penultimate segment of the complete “Fluffhead” epic. Since 2/8/88, “Fluffhead” has always featured “Bundle of Joy” and all of its sister segments: “Fluff’s Travels,” “The Chase,” “Who Do? We Do!,” “Clod,” and “Arrival.” However, “Bundle of Joy” has occasionally shown up outside of its usual “Fluffhead” context. Both 8/21/87 and 8/29/87 boast halved versions of “Harpua,” featuring “Bundle of Joy” occupying the space in between. Also, like several other “Fluff’s Travels” segments, “Bundle” was performed a few times on its own in 1988 and 1989.
As near as can be figured, the point of this tune is to build an insane amount of drama and tension so as to exponentially amplify the screaming sigh of relief that the final segment, “Arrival,” provides at the song’s conclusion. More often than not, it works.
