"All of These Dreams” is one of the most traditional songs in the Phish repertoire. The song establishes itself on vocal harmony, a solid chorus, and a simple melody, enveloping some of the most straightforward and accessible lyrics to come from the pen of Tom Marshall.

“All of These Dreams” and “Anything But Me” both emerged from the wake of a screaming fight between Trey and Tom during a songwriting session in a Philadelphia hotel room. According to Trey, the two tunes “express something that I usually am a little too shy to express,” though precisely what that is he leaves unsaid. As the members of Phish enter middle-age, it seems their world is one where depth of meaning, awareness of love, and stripped-down simplicity may find at least equal footing with the compositional complexity, whimsical goofiness, and improvisational intensity that defined their first twenty years.

While the “official” concert debut was during the hiatus-ending tour on 1/3/03 at Hampton,  “All of These Dreams” was first performed live on 12/19/02 at the taping of The Late Show with David Letterman. This appearance was Phish’s sixth on Letterman and their second on television that week, after also performing on Saturday Night Live.

While performances of the song don't vary one to the next, representative performances can be found on 2/14/03 at the Great Western Forum and at the 20th anniversary Boston festivities on 12/2/03. “All of These Dreams” appeared on 3/8/09 during the Hampton reunion run, and was last performed during the highly-regarded 10/26/10 Manchester, NH gig.

There is a place on the mountain nearby
Deep in a cave
but it's up rather high
There in the darkness are safely concealed
All of the dreams
that you never revealed

And if you go there
and after you do
All of these dreams
would be yours to pursue
The rest of your lifetime
devoid of a care
If you keep your eyes open
you may find yourself there

Such is the promise
such is the curse
You could just live your life
better or worse
Knowing the cache of dreams
up on that hill
Beckons and sways
but won't bend to your will

You might find a river
under a mountain
That feeds a remote subterranean fountain

Drink from this taste
just a hint of a dream
That somehow leaked into
the underground stream
