Comments on "Sphere1 Recap", posted by phishnet

Thanks for writing. Was really looking forward to this recap and I enjoyed the first hand descriptions of the light and sound.

Unsolicited critique of your critique: 4th quarter lull/left turn about this Greg fellow. Id like to learn more, but I think its a separate piece of writing.

Also, think you meant tried no tdied some typos there.

Thanks for the review! It eases my FOMO just a little bit. Enjoy the rest!

Wonderful travel companion, lol - revisionist history!

Mikes groove was an experiential art masterpiece. It was absolutely stunning.

The moment this recap arrived at the word "infamous" is the moment this recap ceased to be relevant to these eyes. Thanks anyway?

Yes! Thank you. Great review! I could feel what you were experiencing leading up to the show. So well done. Yeah, had to been phenomenal. That Farmhouse looked sweet on the Livestream here on my cell phone watching late last night. Cant imagine what that was like in real time. Tonights the night! Last night was an amazing show of the craft and study that Phish exhibit night in night out! Have a blast this weekend.

Attendance bias is going to be magnified given the quality of the sound and size of the visuals. Having watched from the couch, this review seems about a different show. The first set seemed lackluster. The second set had good energy but little exploration. And some of the visuals (lanterns, Mike's, northern lights) were awesome, but much of it had that screensaver vibe that distracted from the sound, good incentive to close your eyes if you wanted to stay in the zone - in which case, I might as well be on the couch. :)

Great recap! Only thing is, the statement about the lobby donut installation being unique to Phish is incorrect. That is a permanent art installation that has been there since Sphere opened. The circles are typically lit up white or blue; they were lit up red specifically for Phish. Attached is a screen shot from a video taken by a Sphere attendee in September 2023 where you can clearly see the circle installation is in fact there (hopefully the link works) https://share.icloud.com/photos/036wacDl-x2JvaJydqbbL-ItQ [/img]

Well that was hands-down my favourite recap ever! Worthy of the historic performance. You really captured the experience. Thanks for letting lots of pictures say thousands of words. Indeed, the Mike's Groove setting was astounding, even from the couch. Those little hatchlings on the lake - in that perfect, natural, serene setting - where RHOMBUSES!!!....and no Gamehendge songs....

Loved the review butUmm
This is going to sound needy, but can we please get a rig rundown from Kuroda and Abigail that shows us how the visual magic happens? I was FLOORED with the visuals, and while the Washington Post article tries to explain it I would LOVE a rundown from the folks orchestrating the visualsplease?

For example: how did the visuals for Theme From the Bottom come about? Was it something that required a lot of pre-planning or is the sphere magic (and visual engineers) able to adapt on-the-fly to create the underwater seascape?

Thanks for the stellar recap Jenny I appreciate your perspective. What hit me the hardest was if we dont give each other space to grow, chapters of the book are being skipped. Damn. Im keeping that one. Cheers!

Having gone to this show, your recap did a great job putting the overall experience into words. It took us a solid 30 minutes to process the lobby and overall scope once inside.

On the music front, I thought it took the band and sound a few songs to settle in. By the Wolfmans jam they were cooking. It seemed like the improv was patient all night which I can understand would come across differently from a couch tour perspective. But all these jams stood up upon relistening. The pretty songs couldnt have been any prettier, Carini stayed evil, and when I thought they were done we got Blaze>Fluffhead. Without the Sphere this is a solid B+ show, and if you were there, bias easily pushes this into A territory.

I totally agree with this. I mostly couch but was able to go to night one. Sure, its attendance bias, but I thought it was great! There were times that the visuals were a best 4-bit feeling to me. And they had to work out some sound kinks. In terms of playing, it hitting in so many ways in the room, and overall enjoyment from a fans perspective, I had an A experience.

Appreciate your heartfelt words about Antelope Greg. Whether an intentional nod or not by the band, with his recent passing its so nice to read words of kindness about him. We are an ever-Evolve-ing community, and it was most fitting tribute to him.

I didnt want to believe the jam vehicles but now Im convinced.

Thanks for your review, Jenny!

I havent seen this mentioned anywhere yet but maybe its one of the Easter eggs alluded to earlier. Im convinced that the headlights on the cars during Tweezer were meant to resemble the actual moving lights of Kurodas rig. If anyone else wants to weigh-in Id be interested to hear other takes.

Having been fortunate enough to go each night except Saturday, I also have to say that anyone saying the energy level wasnt there N1 or that the screen detracted from the music is kidding themselves in an attempt to either feel better about missing out, or rationalize their inability to be on the same page as the band and most of the crowd. Night 1 had the highest energy level of the run by a mile, from both band and crowd alike, and is one of the higher energy level shows of the few dozen Ive seen over the last 10 years. Night one visuals were honestly a little lackluster imo but this was more than made up for by the cohesive groove-centric jams and mind blowing sound quality which I hope all my Phish brethren will one day get a chance to experience at a reasonable price point.
